Anwar hints that Wan Azizah might be Selangor menteri besar
(TMI) – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not ruled out the possibility that PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) may be appointed as the new Selangor menteri besar.
Although he did not confirm it, the PKR de facto leader said discussions would be held by the party soon to discuss Dr Wan Azizah replacing current MB, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Anwar told reporters at the Parliament lobby today that the “Kajang move” was still on as Dr Wan Azizah had emerged triumphant in yesterday’s by-election.
She won with a 5,379 majority, compared with the 6,824 majority obtained by PKR’s Lee Chin Cheh in the 13th general election.
Her victory has intensified speculation that there will be a change of leadership in Selangor as suggested by Lee when he vacated the seat for Anwar to contest.
Despite the slight increase in Chinese votes, which had delighted the Chinese-based MCA, Anwar said it was still “catastrophic” for a party that claimed to represent the community.
“The increase is not alarming. We had a Malay candidate, who wears a tudung, and still we won the popular vote across all races,” he said.
