PKR elections: Four-way tussle for deputy president post on the cards
(The Star) – A four-way fight is about to erupt for the deputy president post in the PKR elections when nominations open Saturday morning.
Party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution is expected to jump into the ring to challenge the incumbent, Azmin Ali.
The other challengers are Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and incumbent vice-president Tian Chua.
But the surprise factor is Saifuddin, who is said to have the backing of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar has confirmed he will be going for the presidency, with Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the president for 15 years, stepping aside for her husband.
Saturday’s nominations will be for the posts of president, deputy president, four vice-presidents and 20 central committee seats.
Polling will take place at branch level meetings from April 25 to May 11. The results of the party polls will be known by May 13.
