DAP remains opposed to hudud, says Kit Siang

DAP today insisted that the party’s stand against the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan remained unchanged.
Party adviser Lim Kit Siang said this was not part of the consensus agreed upon by the parties within Pakatan Rakyat.
“DAP’s stand has not changed and as one of the component parties within PR, we are entitled to voice our opinion,” he said at a press conference at the DAP headquarters at the Wentworth Hotel in Jalan Pudu.
“We maintain our position that hudud is unsuitable in Malaysia as ours is a multiracial and multi-religious country,”
Moreover, Lim said, it was not part of the common consensus agreed upon with PAS and PKR.
“PAS should be reminded that hudud is clearly not part of the PR agenda as announced in the ‘Kenyataan Bersama Majlis Pimpinan Pakatan Rakyat’ signed in 2011.
“The DAP’s position on hudud has been made clear time and again, and that stand cannot be subjected to any compromise.
“It is fundamental to the party’s existence. The passing of such a law will not be in the national interests,” said Lim.
