DAP’s Gobind Singh says the Selangor MB had demonstrated a lack of political will in handling the bible issue

(FMT) – A DAP leader today hit out at Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim over his failure to solve the bible issue.

Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said Khalid has displayed a total lack of interest and political will in his handling of the issue.

“This has resulted in a serious loss of faith of not only the Christians but most other Malaysians in his leadership in Selangor,” said Gobind today.

He was responding to an announcement by Bible Society of Malaysia yesterday on its decision to shift its base from Selangor to Kuala Lumpur to avoid being harassed by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

“He must take full responsibility for Selangor’s failure to solve the bible issue.

“He has failed Pakatan Rakyat as well in that he has failed to uphold our basic pledge to uphold the rights of minorities in a multi-cultural, multi-racial and multi-religious Selangor and Malaysia,” he added.

Gobind said the prolonged bible incident only demonstrated Khalid’s inability to understand and solve problems which needed political courage and strength.

“This begs the question as to whether or not he is politically fit and able enough to continue as Menteri Besar in Selangor.

“Situations like these, needless to say, will cost Pakatan dearly in the next general election. This is precisely the reason why many have expressed great concern about Khalid’s leadership in Selangor,” he added.

Yesterday BSM said it would move its base from Petaling Jaya to Kuala Lumpur by middle of the year.

It said it was because the society felt let down by the Selangor government, which had allowed the Jais to raid the BSM premise and confiscate some 300 bibles in Bahasa Malaysia and Iban, which refer to God as Allah.
