Penang PAS voices support for Islamic laws
(The Star) – Once implemented, the principles of just, fairness and beauty of Islamic laws can be fully understood and appreciated.
The Penang Islamic Affairs Council (MAIPP) has voiced its support for PAS to table a Private Member’s Bill in the Dewan Rakyat ahead of enforcing Islamic laws in Kelantan.
MAIPP chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Man said the tabling of the Bill would pave the way for the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment, adding that it would be a serious effort towards implementing hudud punishment in Malaysia.
“Retributive justice or ‘an eye for an eye’ punishment is meant to educate people about repenting their wrongdoings,” said the Permatang Pasir assemblyman, the sole PAS representative in the Penang legislative assembly.
“It will prevent them from committing the same crime or offences that can bring shame and endanger lives, religions, dignity, properties, family lineage and basic human rights.
“Once implemented, the principles of just, fairness and beauty of Islamic laws can be fully understood and appreciated.
“It will then clear the misconception and misunderstanding that people have of Islamic laws. Hudud punishment is just part of it.”
Salleh added that the Kelantan government should be allowed to carry out Islamic laws, adding that the MAIPP would carry out several programmes, such as seminars and dialogue sessions, for the public to get a better understanding of Islamic laws.
