Malaysia police arrest 10 for suspected terror links

(Channel NewsAsia) – Malaysian authorities have arrested 10 people believed to be plotting attacks both in and outside of Malaysia.

Maps, plans of government buildings and key installations were seized.

Police are now tracking down the remaining members of the militant group, whom they believe are scattered across the country.

Malaysia’s Counter Terrorism Division has arrested nine men and one woman, aged between 22 and 55-years-old.

They say the group had received military-style training, and was plotting and raising funds for attacks in Malaysia and other countries.

Malaysian Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the group is believed to be linked to international terror networks Al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah.

And like them, it was operating under the guise of humanitarian missions.

Malaysian intelligence revealed the group had already taken part in several jihad missions outside Malaysia

Authorities raided their safehouses in Kedah and Selangor, and seized a flag from an international terrorist group, along with military-style uniforms, books on jihad, rambo knives, and samurai swords.

Malaysian police are preparing to make more arrests, believing more members of the militant group are residing in various locations throughout Malaysia.

While Malaysia has not been subject to any notable terror attacks in recent years, the country has been home to several suspected key militant figures.
