Selangor MB confident of winning PKR Deputy Presidency
(Bernama) – Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is confident of winning the Deputy President’s post in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) even though party nominations show that the incumbent, Mohamed Azmin Ali, is leading.
Abdul Khalid said this was the factor which was encouraging him to contest for the number two seat in the elections which began last Saturday.
“I am confident (of winning the Deputy President’s post) which is why I am contesting,” he told reporters after a ceremony to hand over the Kampung Pecah Batu land title in Bestari Jaya here this afternoon.
The latest results showed Azmin was ahead of his two challengers with 5,111 votes compared to Abdul Khalid (2,288) and Datuk Saifuddin Nasution (2,322).
Asked about his expectation at the coming party elections at the Selangor level which will be held on May 11, Abdul Khalid said he had high hopes as the state had the highest number of PKR members at more than 170,000.
“Selangor is the deciding factor as it has more than 170,000 PKR members besides Sabah which has more than 90,000 members,” he said.
The Menteri Besar will be challenged by former member of Parliment for Kapar, S.Manikavasagam for the post of Kuala Selangor division head at the elections on May 11.
