Khalid pushes for party polls to be postponed as it has been marred with irregularities and fraud

(Free Malaysia Today) – Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will urge PKR’s political bureau and central election committee (JPP) to postpone the ongoing PKR polls until the voting system is improved.

Khalid, who is contesting for the party deputy presidency, is expected to make his suggestion at the bureau’s meeting tonight.

“Although we are confident if we continue with the current polls, Khalid will eventually win the race for the deputy president post, he does not want to win this way. He rather lose than win the election in a questionable manner.

“There are a lot of weaknesses in JPP, apart from the outside factors such as turmoil and chaos at the polling centres,” a source close to Khalid told FMT.

Khalid, who is in a three cornered tussle with its incumbent Azmin Ali and party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, currently trails Azmin in the race to be party’s number two man.

Official results as of May 4 showed that Azmin garnering 9,876 votes followed by Khalid (6,217 votes) and Saifuddin (5,717 votes).

The source claimed that Khalid won in eight out of 12 divisions in the Federal Territories polls last week.

“We are in a comfortable position but since there is fraud in the election, Khalid feels that it is better to postpone the election altogether,” he said.
