Neck & Neck Between Khalid, Azmin In PKR’s Poll
(NST) – In a remarkable turnaround, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has whittled incumbent PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali’s comfortable lead in the race to become PKR’s number two man after the votes in Selangor are counted.
Abdul Khalid, with 10,800 votes is now closing in on Azmin who has about 11,300 votes with a difference of only 500 votes.
The unofficial tally takes into account votes only from divisions validated by the Central Election Committee in Selangor, Federal Territory and Negri Sembilan and added to the official count in the PKR election’s official website.
Abdul Khalid’s political secretary Azman Bidin said the closing of gap between the two was an encouraging development as the official result on May 9 showed that Abdul Khalid was trailing far behind Azmin who was leading by 3659 votes.
“Judging from the mood and voting trend in Federal Territory and divisions in Selangor whose results are accepted by the Central Election Committee, the votes for Abdul Khalid in divisions where election was either cancelled or postponed will continue to increase.
“This is because those divisions have been identified as Abdul Khalid’s stronghold,” said Azman in a statement.
