PKR polls: Azmin, Khalid dispute vote margin
(The Star) – The camps of Azmin Ali and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim are disputing the other’s unofficial voting results with regard the margin of votes gained so far in the ongoing PKR polls.
On Wednesday, supporters of Azmin Ali claimed that the incumbent deputy president had stretched his lead by some 5,000 votes after the third week of voting.
The figure was however, strongly disputed by Khalid’s camp which claimed that the Selangor Mentri Besar was only trailing Azmin by some 500 votes.
A source close to Azmin told The Star Online that Azmin has bagged 46% of the popular vote, with 15,724 votes as of Wednesday.
Khalid, the source claimed, has amassed 10,851 votes.
Khalid’s camp however, had a different calculation.
They claimed that the gap between the two rivals is slowly closing, with Azmin garnering 10,435 votes to Khalid’s 9,582.
The third candidate in the race for the PKR No. 2 post, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution however appears to have little chance of winning.
Azmin’s supporters claims that the outgoing secretary-general only managed to bag 7,609, while Khalid’s camp has the amount at 6,586 votes.
“We expected that Khalid’s camp would dispute our numbers. Until now, they haven’t been able to tally the results from the divisions. Their ground work is messy,” said a source close to Azmin.
Despite the huge difference in the results provided by both camps, Khalid’s supporters remained optimistic that the mentri besar would succeed in edging out Azmin as the figures are not reflective of voting at 27 divisions which has postponed indefinitely due to irregularities and discrepancies.
The 27 divisions which are set to hold fresh polls are Hulu Langat, Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Subang, Klang, Selayang, Kota Raja, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Kapar, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kemaman, Dungun, Paya Besar, Nibong Tebal, Jerantut, Batang Sadong, Kapit, Pengerang, Tenggara, Tenom, Keningau, Bukit Katil, Tawau, Papar and Sg Petani.
PKR has a total of 198 divisions nationwide.
