(Bernama) – Police have identified more foreign militants who are still hiding in Malaysia to avoid arrest as they are wanted by Interpol for their involvement in terrorism.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were continuously monitoring to track down the militants.

“We have identified some and are hunting for more. For your information today, the four militants we arrested recently have been charged in court under the Penal Code.

“Our monitoring is ongoing, so don’t think the police are not doing anything, but I cannot disclose everything as the investigation is still on,” he told reporters after a briefing at the state police headquarters, here, in conjunction with the Bukit Gelugor by-election.

Khalid said police viewed seriously the attempts by the militants to recruit Malaysians, especially youths, into their activities.

“Youths are their target of their propaganda and to get them involved in terrorism,” he said.

Yesterday, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the foreign militants who were arrested in Malaysia recently were trying to spread their ideology and propaganda of jihad for Islam in their effort to recruit more members.

He said from the investigation by the authorities, it was found that they had fled to Malaysia to avoid arrest for their involvement with militant groups in their own countries.
