We are going to London to fight liberalism, says Perkasa’s Ibrahim Ali
(The Malaysian Insider) – Malay rights group Perkasa is spreading its wings to the United Kingdom in order to counter “pluralism” and “liberalism” among Malaysians abroad, said its chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
“With a network like this, many things can be accomplished for the sake of peace and harmony and also for the good image of the country,” Ibrahim told The Malaysian Insider in a statement.
He said through a Perkasa branch in London, Malaysians abroad could obtain accurate information about happenings in the homeland.
Perkasa London and Europe will cover Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium and other European countries, where the group claims has 253 members.
Ibrahim also said Malaysian businessman Kamal A. Mohamad would head the London branch.
“There was a demand for this about a year ago. They have been following Perkasa’s struggle through the news and on social media, and wish to contribute ideas and spread what we are championing in UK and Europe,” he added.
The Malaysian Insider reported today that Perkasa was looking to spread its wings abroad, starting the London branch on Saturday, in response to requests from Malays who have rejected political organisations like Umno.
“The Malay community in London has asked Perkasa to open a branch there,” its secretary-general Syed Hasan Syed Ali told The Malaysian Insider.
The right wing group was formed in 2008 after Umno and Barisan Nasional’s poor performance in the general election that year. Perkasa claims it has some half-a-million members, mostly from Umno.
Syed Hasan said the Malays in London were not interested in joining political organisations or clubs such as the Umno Club, hence the request for Perkasa to open a branch in London.
Syed Hasan said there were also plans to open branches in Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia and Australia.
