Dyana’s mum confirms still Perkasa member
Yammy Samat, mother to DAP’s Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya, confirmed last night she was still a Perkasa member, although she no longer believed in the Malay rights group’s ideals.
“I am still with Perkasa, but I don’t want to be active. I saw that it was taking a different direction, it was becoming more like Umno’s lackey (Umno punya suruhan),” Yammy, who is an Umno member, said last night when approached by reporters in Teluk Intan.
“I am still a member because Perkasa is like Umno, once you pay the fees, you get a lifetime membership.”
She urged the media to keep her daughter out of the issue, as Dyana was not a member and had never been interested in becoming one.
“Reporters should ask me, this has nothing to do with Dyana,” stressed Yammy, when reporters asked her about her daughter’s “flip-flopping” stance over Yammy’s membership.
Yammy said that Dyana was present at the Perkasa function years ago as her daughter, as Yammy was then a committee member. She added that it was the first and last time Dyana attended a Perkasa event.
“That picture is correct, because at that time Dyana had just finished her studies and was accompanying me and Datuk Ibrahim Ali,” said Yammy, referring to the Perkasa chief.
