Johor Sultan wants special team to appeal Batu Puteh Island decision

(The Rakyat Post) – Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim today instructed the Johor state government to set up a special team to consider making an appeal against the decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Pulau Batu Puteh.

Sultan Ibrahim said the move was in accordance with his late father Almarhum Sultan Iskandar’s instruction that the island belonged to Johor and that it must remain as part of the state of Johor.

The Sultan made the statement when opening the second session of the 13th Johor State Legislative Assembly at Bukit Timbalan today.

Sultan Ibrahim also wanted the state government to coordinate the weekends for all sectors in the state for Fridays and Saturdays as had been gazzetted.

He said he had received complaints from parents working in the private sector that they did not get to spend time with their children because they had to work on Fridays.

The Sultan also instructed that local contractors benefit from the implementation of the Pengerang Petroleum Complex near Kota Tinggi.

He said the development would have a huge impact on the Johor economy and should benefit the people of Johor.

While expressing gratitude that Johor had been developing well, Sultan Ibrahim reminded all elected representatives to prioritise the people’s interest over that of their own.

“I wish to remind state representatives to shoulder their responsibilities without any preference for race, religion or political beliefs.”
