‘Standardise Johor’s rest days’
(NST) – JOHOR ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar yesterday told the state government to standardise the official rest days on Friday and Saturday so that it applies to the private sector also.
He said feedback from the people, especially those in the private sector, was that they wanted to spend more time with their families on Fridays.
“The state government should review whether to standardise rest days for both the civil and private sectors in Johor to Friday and Saturday,” he said during his speech at the opening of the second half of the 13th Johor State Assembly.
It was reported that the change of weekend, beginning Jan 1, was made after receiving feedback from all quarters and to allow Muslims to perform their religious obligations on Friday. Prior to 1994, Friday and Saturday were the rest days in Johor but this was changed to standardise weekends with the rest of the country.
