Suhakam will be setting up an inspection team to review the situation and impact to areas that will be affected by the Kidex highway project, with the help of the Say No to Kidex (SNTK) committee.

Suhakam commissioner James Nayagam said the team will need to analyse the impact as outlined and highlighted by SNTK.

“We will need to look into the legal aspects as well as the emotional reasons behind why residents reject the Kidex highway,” he said.

James expressed shock on hearing that the Sri Petaling primary school and Bukit Bintang boys secondary school would be situated only five metres away from the highway.

In today’s discussion held at the Rukun Tetangga Section 4A, were James, representing Suhakam and SNTK committee members; pro-tem chairman Mohan Mahatheva, pro-tem vice-chairman Selva Sugumaran, secretary David Yoong, treasurer Helen Chong and committee member Mak Khuin Weng.

James agreed to setup a separate meeting with all related agencies and parties.

“However, legal representatives will not be allowed into the meeting to avoid any possible threats,” James said.

“SNTK will need to register themselves as an official non-governmental organisation (NGO) to allow for them to represent and be the voice of the residents.

“The committee will need to document and obtain the acknowledgment of government officials attending any of their meetings,” he said.

James advised SNTK and residential leaders to ensure that respective residents to obtain written documents when approached by any Kidex Sdn Bhd officials.

During the discussion, residents became emotional, voicing out their concerns and predicament.

“I cannot lose my house. It is my life’s saving. A house is very important to a person. I cannot lose it,” cried Stella Fung, 76, who has hearing and health problems.

Goh, 80, said that she has no other income source and she could not afford to sell off her current shop lot.
