(The Star) – Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin has refuted rumours that he has been declared a bankrupt.

Messages had spread via social media and text messages on Tuesday that the PAS MP had been declared bankrupt by a Terengganu court following financial troubles.

However, when contacted by The Star, Raja Kamarul said he had no idea how the rumours started as he had not received any notice from the banks that he was being charged with bankruptcy.

“I have never been involved in any court case lately, and have not received any letter from the banks, so I do not even know how to respond to such rumours.

“Besides, declaring a person bankrupt is a process that can take years. How can there be a conclusion when there was no initiation in the first place,” he said.

Raja Kamarul said that a check with the deputy public prosecutor of a local court revealed that no case was filed against him earlier in the day.

He added that he would be holding a press conference in parliament on Wednesday to clarify the matter.
