Putrajaya today refuted allegations that Bank Rakyat had allowed carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishan to repay a RM32 million loan without interest following intervention from a minister.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan (pic) said loans given to every individual had to be repaid with interest.
“Any story that the bank disbursed interest-free loans is untrue. The bank has never done so.
“There is no question that the same amount was paid back, people who took loans have to repay their loans with interest, taking into account the profit factor,” he said in responding to queries from MPs when winding up the Supplementary Supply Bill.
Without mentioning Deepak’s name, Ahmad also refuted allegations that loans were disbursed to any individual either with the interference or with directive of the minister.
“There is no such thing as special individuals and the bank has never treated any borrower differently,” he said.
