Malays should stop fighting each other, exposing own weaknesses

(Malaysian Times) – Muslims and the Malays in the country should stop fighting each other and exposing their own weaknesses in their bid to achieve personal goals, Kedah Council of Regency chairman Tan Sri Tunku Salehuddin Sultan Badlishah said.

He said if this attitude persist, Muslims and the Malays in Malaysia might not need any foreign enemies to destroy Islam and the Malay race.

“I’m very disappointed when looking at divisions among Muslims in the country right now, especially when the enemies are trying hard to find ways and means to break and shake the strength of Muslims.”

Tunku Salehuddin, who is the Tunku Temenggung of Kedah, said this when gracing the opening of the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation here last night.

At present, he said various allegations had been hurled at Islam, directly and indirectly, but in many situations, Muslims, including Islamic scholars had done nothing to set things right.

Tunku Salehuddin also expressed his disappointment over the attitude of certain individuals who were keen on insulting Islam, Quran, royal institution, as well as the national judiciary system and security forces through the electronic and social media.

“This kind of irresponsible actions can ruin our civilisation and the peaceful and prosperous country we have now can be destroyed in a blink of an eye. That’s why Muslims must stay united,” he said.

Tunku Salehuddin said preaching of Islam could no longer be done as a voluntary work or as a past time activity, but instead should be carried out as a continuous effort.

“This is where we should be wise and smart to ensure Islamic laws can be implemented fairly in Malaysia,” he said.

Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Perkim president, his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
