(The Malaysian Insider) – After being caught in close proximity with a married woman four days ago, a former police commando who was implicated in the high-profile murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibu (pic), now faces prosecution for allegedly punching a policeman.

The 38-year-old former commando allegedly punched the policeman at the police quarters in Sepang minutes after he was caught in close proximity with the policewoman at her quarters on Thursday.

He allegedly punched the policeman in the face while he was handcuffed after the policeman had come to help his colleague, who is the woman’s husband, in the arrest.

The policeman ended up with a bleeding nose and slight injury on the lips.

Sepang police chief Superintendent Mohd Yusoff Awang said the former commando was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injury without a weapon following a report lodged by the policeman.

Mohd Yusoff said during the incident, there was a commotion after the suspect was nabbed in close proximity with the woman.

“The injured policeman was a neighbour. He came to help his colleague who found the suspect. There might have been a misunderstanding and the policeman ended up with some facial injuries,” he said.

It is learnt that a statement has been recorded from the policeman but a statement has yet to taken from the former commando.

“We will call him to record his statement soon,” said Mohd Yusoff.

The man, who was previously attached to the Special Action Squad in Bukit Aman, was caught with the policewoman in her unit at the police quarters by her husband at 1.20am.

The woman’s husband, a policeman attached to the mobile patrol unit, had gone to their unit to check on his wife and suspected something amiss when he found the door locked.

Upon checking further, he found the former commando hiding next to the bed.

The case has been referred to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department(Jais) for further action.

A disciplinary file was also opened against the policewoman while the former commando is also subjected to investigation by the Islamic religious authorities for committing khalwat (close proximity).

Mohd Yusoff declined to confirm if the man arrested was the same person who had been convicted for the murder of Altantuya and freed on appeal.
