Sarawak state assemblyman dies from cancer
(The Malaysian Insider) – The state assemblyman for Bukit Assek in Sarawak has died.
Bernama reported that DAP’s Wong Ho Leng passed away in Sibu at about 11pm tonight.
State DAP chairman Chong Chien Jen, who is also Kuching Member of Parliament, confirmed Wong’s death when contacted by Bernama.
“Wong died at 11pm. That is about the only information I can provide. You have to contact the family member for more details,” Chong was quoted as saying by Bernama.
According to The Star Online, Wong, 54, had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in January last year.
The former state DAP chairman and opposition leader underwent treatment in Singapore earlier this year, and had returned to Sibu recently but remained in coma
He was receiving palliative care at the Rejang Medical Centre in Sibu until the his untimely passing, The Star Online reported.
It was reported last month that new Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem had approved aid amounting to RM1 million to help cover Wong’s medical expenses.
