Pressure group sees hypocrisy and blame-shifting in statements by Khalid and other coalition leaders

(Free Malaysia Today) – The Say No To Kidex (SNTK) movement has demanded that the Selangor Government and Pakatan Rakyat alliance issue clear statements of their stand on the controversial highway project.

SNTK spokesman Mak Khuin Weng said today that Pakatan leaders appeared to be blaming the Federal Government for the project whereas it was the Selangor administration that approved it more than two years ago.

Mak blasted Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for his most recent remark on the controversy, saying it was hypocritical.

He was referring to a statement reported last Saturday, in which Khalid was quoted as saying that public discussion on the subject was premature because the Malaysian Highway Authority had yet to finalise the proposal for the highway alignment.

“Khalid should be reminded that it was his administration that approved Kidex in principle on 23 Feb 2012 and subsequently published a land acquisition gazette affecting 3,784 land lots on 31 July 2013,” Mak said.

He noted that the Land Acquisition Act requires the state to cite studies and documentation to justify such a project.

In stating that he was awaiting the finalised proposal for the highway alignment, Khalid was indirectly admitting that his administration had approved the project and published the gazette without citing studies and documentation, he said.

Mak also criticised Pakatan Rakyat for its ambiguity over the issue.

“Only a handful of elected representatives have voiced their disapproval of the project and criticised Khalid,” he said.
