Church groups deny organising Bible peace walk

(FMT) – The KL Gospel Hall (KLGH) and Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) both denied their involvement in a peace walk that is supposed to take place this Sunday from the grounds of KLGH to Dataran Merdeka.

This event was supposedly organised as a protest against the threats of Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) to destroy the 321 Bibles seized by Jais from BSM earlier this year.

“We did not organise this, nor did we know of the existence of the poster that had been circulated nationwide on Facebook,” said a KLGH spokesman.

The Bahasa Malaysia poster has been circulating on Facebook calling for a “Bible Rally” (Perhimpunan Bible), claiming that the event is organised by BSM.

The spokesman told FMT that a police report will be made soon and a statement will be released as soon as possible to dispel the misinformation spreading on the Internet.

“I want people to know that the church and BSM have nothing to do with this,” he said.

There is also fear that the poster, calling for a “protest peace walk” is created by a group unhappy with the recent racial and religious issues in Malaysia.

“I think it’s to create tension and political instability.”

KLGH has about 500 churchgoers and is currently the nearest church to Dataran Merdeka.
