(Free Malaysia Today) – Former Kapar MP S. Manickavasagam created an unpset when he defeated Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim for the PKR Kuala Selangor division chief’s post.

In the polls held last Saturday, Manickavasagam clinched 701 votes to Khalid’s 515.

Khalid however managed to obtain more votes than incumbent Azmin Ali for the deputy president’s race.

The Kuala Selangor voters gave Khalid 517 votes, while Azmin received 440 votes and Datuk Saifuddin Nasution received 50.

Manickavasagam was viewed as an underdog after being suspended by the party for several weeks for speaking out against money politics.

However his suspension was revoked and he emerged victorious against incumbent Khalid, whose loss is indicative of declining support from the party’s grassroots.
