PKR postpones party polls outcome

(Malay Mail Online) – The full results of PKR’s controversy-ridden party elections will only be known after August 10, party election committee chairman Datuk Johari Abdul said today.

The latest delay is due to yet another extension for the re-election process for the Kelana Jaya and Puchong branches, he said.

The second postponement at the two branches was to accommodate the Muslim fasting month, and logistical and manpower problems, Johari explained.

Initially, the polls at the branch level were to have taken place on June 28, the eve of Ramadan.

The re-election process, however, will carry on as scheduled tomorrow for Sungai Besar, Subang and Sepang.

Johari said his committee has decided to disqualify three members from contesting seats on the Sepang branch committee for attempting to convince party members to tear up their ballot papers during the initial round of polls at the branch.

He said they also expect the Kota Raja polls monitoring team to lodge a police report against two people, believed to be party members, for attempting to interfere with the branch’s electoral process last week.

Despite the incident, the results for the branch polls are valid, he noted.

The Kota Raja branch polls were cancelled last month when a group of men charged into the polling centre and disrupted the polling process. Two party members, identified to have been involved in the fracas, have since been sacked.
