Selangor MB post not anyone’s sole prerogative, Anwar reminds Pakatan
(The Malaysian Insider) – The Selangor menteri besar position is not the sole prerogative of an individual, but a decision made together between Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) reminded the opposition pact today.
“I am referring to a few statements made recently on the position of the Selangor menteri besar.
“I firmly state that all assemblymen and party leaders must respect the rules and conduct regarding this issue,” said the PKR de facto chief in a statement today.
“The position of the menteri besar is not an agenda, nor is it anyone’s prerogative, but it is a decision made together between PKR and PR, with the consent of the Sultan.”
Anwar’s statement come as Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today he would not resign from his position even if he were to lose the PKR deputy presidency contest.
He said the polls results were irrelevant, as he would still remain the Port Klang assemblyman and thus, qualified to head the Selangor government.
This was despite mounting criticism against him from his peers in PKR and DAP, who are unhappy with how his administration had managed the water issue, the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and seizure of Bibles by Jais.
Several PR leaders, including PKR’s Rafizi Ramli and DAP’s Datuk Mohd Ariff Sabri, have expressed fear that Selangor would fall to Umno should Khalid remain menteri besar.
