Police are seeking the extradition of the Malaysian diplomat to be tried in New Zealand for attempted rape and burglary

(Free Malaysia Today) – New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully said the Malaysian diplomat in the sex attempt and burglary case has not got away with it because there is a process under way to seek his extradition.

He said extradition had not been ruled out as it was a matter for the police, not politicians.

McCully told Parliament in a snap debate that he had conveyed to Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman that the diplomat had tarnished the reputation of all Malaysian diplomats in the world and he wanted to see the matter treated seriously.

Muhammed Rizalman Ismail, 38, a second warrant officer from the Defence Ministry attached to the High Commission of Malaysia in Wellington was arrested on May 9 for attempted burglary and sexual assault on a woman.

He had followed the 21-year-old to her Brooklyn home on May 9 when the alleged assault occurred.

Wellington district police commander Supt. Sam Hoyle said the police were continuing to support the victim.
