Syabas blames City Hall for burst pipe that caused sinkhole
(The Rakyat Post) – The pipe that burst at the collapsed road in Bukit Bintang was due to excavation works by a City Hall contractor, claims Syarikat Bekalan Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
“City Hall has instructed its contractor to repair the pipe now. A few areas in Kuala Lumpur are affected by the water disruption,” said Syabas corporate affairs executive chairman Abdul Halem Mat Som.
He also referred to a statement issued by Syabas corporate communications and public affairs general manager Priscilla Alfred.
In the statement, Syabas announced that an unscheduled water supply disruption had occurred at various locations in Kuala Lumpur today after a 600mm sized mild steel pipe burst at the junction of Jalan Imbi and Jalan Pudu.
“Initial investigations by Syabas found that the burst pipe was caused by tunnel excavations carried out by a contractor appointed by City Hall.
“City Hall has appointed a contractor to carry out repairs to the burst pipe, with work expected to be completed by midnight tonight.
“The repairs are just temporary fix with the purpose of supplying water to the affected areas,” read the statement.
Among the areas affected by the unscheduled water disruptions, or low water pressure, are Jalan San Peng, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Alor, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Mesui, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Davis.
