Can Khalid cause an upset in PKR polls?

Azmin-Khalid

The coveted deputy president’s post in PKR is still undecided with Azmin and Khalid refusing to accept defeat

(Free Malaysia Today) – Who will be the next PKR deputy president is still uncertain, as incumbent Azmin Ali and contender Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim are claiming to be in the lead in the party polls.

The fight for the deputy presidency is far from over after fresh polls were conducted in 25 divisions, with two more in Puchong and Kelana Jaya to be held on Aug 10.

Khalid’s supporters claim that the menteri besar has a 700-vote majority over Azmin and the result did not include the votes from Subang, Sg. Besar, Keningau, Pensiangan, Papar, Tenom, Kelana Jaya and Puchong.

They say Khalid has captured 11 divisions in Selangor, five in Sarawak and four in Sabah. In Sabah alone, he received more than 1,700 votes.

Fresh elections were held in 27 divisions following discrepancies in the voting process.

Khalid’s camp claim the menteri besar has won in Kota Raja, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Selayang, Subang, Kapar, Klang, Shah Alam, Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat.

In Sabah, Khalid received the most votes from Pensiangan, Keningau, Tenom and Papar.

Divisions in Sarawak, Limbang, Julau, Kapit, Sarikei and Batang Sadong were also said to favour Khalid.

However, Azmin’s camp say the Gombak MP has bagged 20,351 votes and Khalid was trailing with 15,767 votes as of July 1.

Although there are votes from some divisions that are still unaccounted for, Azmin remains ahead in the race, say Azmin’s supporters.
