(The Rakyat Post) – The homeless who have mental problems and are HIV-positive have been given special attention by various agencies to date.

Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, in a press statement, said the government had not only helped them earn money, but had also cared for them.

He said this while throwing support behind the Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s request for soup kitchens and the homeless to move out of Kuala Lumpur’s city centre.

“Vagrants should be removed to save the city’s image.

“We want strict enforcement against homeless and beggars who are not of special needs (OKU), but are strong enough to work and have been offered help by government agencies.

“Most of them had given up and left the jobs they were given and resorted to the easy and quick way of making money by begging.

“Umno Youth hopes the authorities take stern action against the homeless and beggars that are tarnishing the image of Kuala Lumpur indirectly,” the statement read.

He said Tengku Adnan’s decision, along with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, had taken into account the social ills, safety, city’s image that would have a negative effect on tourists.

“Volunteers who help these people can give their feedback to the relevant authorities about setting up a one-stop centre to give out food, medical care and other basic needs to the homeless.”
