Pas boycotts meeting to discuss Selangor MB seat and motion of no confidence
(NST) – The Selangor Backbenchers Club’s (BBC) special meeting to discuss the Menteri Besar’s position and call for a motion of no confidence was boycotted by Pas.
According to sources, the meeting which was hastily called by BBC chief Mohamed Azmin Ali was given the cold shoulder by Pas assemblymen upon knowing its agenda.
“Azmin has never called for a BBC meeting before. The meeting on Tuesday was the first. When we knew what it was for, Pas backbenchers decided to boycott the meeting,” said the source.
It is understood that only two Pas members, Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib and Lembah Jaya assemblyman Khasim Abdul Aziz attended the meeting.
The source said upon seeing the rejection by Pas members, Azmin changed the meeting’s agenda from discussing the motion of no confidence against Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to the alleged mismanagement of the state’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) funds at parliamentary service centres.
The Selangor Treasury Department recently revealed traces of leakages in the implementation of SMUE in two parliamentary service centres involving alleged mismanagement of funds amounting to RM138,000.
The Gombak and Wangsa Maju parliamentary service centres, both run by PKR members of parliament, are currently under investigation.
The Gombak parliamentary service centre, which falls under Azmin, is alleged to have used RM35,000 from the scheme but was unable to provide any legitimate documentation to prove that the money was used for the benefit of the scheme beneficiaries.
According to a source, the treasury’s Audit Department is in the midst of investigating the incident and was told that none of the SMUE beneficiaries were aware of the RM35,000.
Yesterday, it was reported that the BBC allegedly held a special meeting to discuss the Menteri Besar’s position in a more serious attempt to remove Abdul Khalid from the much coveted post.
The meeting was said to be called to seek a consensus to call for a special state assembly session to table the motion of no confidence against Abdul Khalid.
