(The Rakyat Post) – The Education Ministry has transferred a teacher who threw a shoe at an eight-year-old student during a Moral Education class.

Expressing regret on his Facebook page, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan revealed that Abdul Rahim Jaafar was transferred to SK Linggi with immediate effect and issued him a show cause letter. Further action could be taken soon.

“The state Education Department, the Port Dickson district education office and the school have met with the child’s father and an apology has been issued,” he said, adding that the ministry viewed the incident with extreme seriousness.

Sinar Harian reported today that the SK Port Dickson student M. Sharmini, was believed to have been playing behind the class with her two friends and was not paying attention during class.

This led to Abdul Rahim throwing his shoe at her, hitting her in the forehead. She bled profusely while the teacher continued to teach.

Sharmini claimed that the teacher did not care and was forced to go to the class next door to obtain help from the teacher there.

A police report was subsequently lodged at the Port Dickson police headquarters the very same day.

Meanwhile, MIC Wanita chief Mohana Muniandy expressed her disappointment, saying that teachers should learn to control their temper when dealing with kids.

“I’m a mother and when incidents such as this happen, many mothers out there will be afraid to send their children to school,” she said to The Rakyat Post when contacted.

She said it was the responsibility of teachers to take care of children and not harm them when they were in school.

“The case is under probe. However, a harsher punishment should be meted out to the teacher.”
