Esscom arrests 69 fishermen on second day of curfew
(The Rakyat Post) – A total of 69 fishermen, including 10 women, were arrested within the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) for failing to oblige the curfew imposed in the area.
The arrests were made on the second day after the curfew was imposed on Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Semporna waters.
Esscom Commander Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said they also seized 11 boats, seven of which were detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the rest by marine police.
“There were caught within the curfew area between 6pm and 6am. The majority of them did not possess valid identification documents.”
He reminded people to adhere to the curfew order, which was imposed in six districts under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone for two weeks from July 19 to Aug 2, to curb cross-border crimes, which were becoming rampant in the east coast of Sabah.
