Selangor MB crisis: No confidence vote allowed against leadership, says pol-sec

Khalid Ibrahim

(The Star) – The Selangor state legislative assembly can move a motion of no confidence against the Mentri Besar’s leadership, according to Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s political secretary on Thursday.

Azman Abidin said: “At the same time, a mentri besar could go to the Sultan and request permission to dissolve the assembly, when he loses support.

“If the Sultan grants permission, the mentri besar can dissolve the assembly and fresh state elections would have to be carried out,” said Azman.

However, he said Khalid would not be forced out this way nor will the Mentri Besar resort to dissolving the assembly.

According to Azman, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had repeatedly said he wanted a smooth transition in the replacement of the Selangor Mentri Besar.

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had been quoted as saying to state assemblymen that they could move a motion of no confidence against him which was allowed by the state constitution.

Khalid was currently in a quandary as PKR wants him out as MB.

DAP and PAS have agreed in principle for Khalid to vacate his post, and for PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to take over as Selangor MB.
