Drowning in a pool of lies

The latest rumblings over Selangor’s water deal is worrying. Are Pakatan leaders taking us for a ride?

Jasmine Wong, Free Malaysia Today

It’s one thing to play political games with one another. It’s quite another when the rakyat is dragged along in these battles, fed lie upon lie, then forced to choose sides.

Such is the case with the current chaos in Selangor, brought on by the question of whether Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is fit to remain as Menteri Besar.

Tell us the truth—does Pakatan want Khalid out because corporate mastermind he may be but visionary leader he is not?

Has Pakatan had just about enough of Khalid’s ding-dong-ing on important issues like the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway and the Bible controversy?

Is Pakatan concerned Selangorians will suffer under a tight-fisted leader who prefers to hoard cash and watch the poor languish?

Or does it all boil down to the heated water agreement, or rather disagreement, that currently rages between Khalid and a water concessionaire?

If the information posted on Raja Petra Kamarudin’s Malaysia Today portal is anything to go by, then Pakatan supporters have been taken for a ride this past year or so.

According to Raja Petra (and I know he has his detractors, but bear with me), a soon-to-be signed water deal is making certain parties hot around the collar.

While Khalid is ready to fork out RM250 million to buy over the water company, the asking price has shot up to RM2.5 billion.

Really? My maths may be wonky, but isn’t RM2.5 billion a whole RM2.25 billion more than Khalid’s estimate of the company’s worth? Remember, he’s a seasoned corporate man.

Attacking Khalid’s character, ripping apart his every statement and ridiculing him in public is simply a dirty tactic to cast doubt on his abilities so he can be removed and replaced with a stooge more than willing to do the bidding of the power-hungry at the top.

Also, if this whole “Out with Khalid” campaign was merely to cover up the tussle for Selangor’s RM3 billion plus reserves, then aren’t the goons in Pakatan no better than their counterparts who run riot in Barisan Nasional?

The entire water deal smells fishy. My only hope is that Khalid sticks to his guns. My other hope is that the rakyat open their eyes to what Pakatan is capable of.
