(The Malaysian Insider) – Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should abide by PKR’s decision to replace him and step down as Selangor menteri besar, the party’s branch and division leaders said.

In a joint statement, Subang division chief and MP R. Sivarasa, Selayang division chief and MP William Leong, Klang division chief Yew Boon Lye and Sg Jarom branch chief David Cheong said they supported PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to succeed Khalid.

“We, the branch and division chiefs of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, announce our undivided loyalty for Wan Azizah.

“As the PKR president and the Kajang state assemblyperson, Wan Azizah is the most senior and the most qualified among PKR assemblypersons in Selangor to be made menteri besar.

“Therefore, we urge all PKR members including state exco members and state assemblypersons to unite in supporting Wan Azizah,” they said in the statement last night.

The branch and division chiefs said the party’s grassroots felt that the change of power should be carried out in a civilised manner.

“Khalid should also respect PKR’s decision and relinquish his position in a proper manner. Continuing to cling on to power only tarnishes his reputation.

“If he continues to be stubborn and refuses to step down as the Selangor menteri besar, everyone will question his motives,” they said, adding that this would only benefit Pakatan Rakyat’s enemies.
