Khalid aping Shahrizat with MACC report, says Rafizi
(MMO) – Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s pre-emptive move to enlist the aid of federal graft-busters over his questionable business deals met with jeers from party colleagues, with PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli comparing it to the cow-farming “stunt” pulled by Umno’s Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Rafizi — who had exposed the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) scandal involving Shahrizat’s family that cost her a Cabinet post — said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 defined corruption very narrowly, and demanded Khalid show his hand instead of putting on a show.
“If Khalid wants to use SPRM to clear his name, good luck because Shahrizat tried to use SPRM to clear her name too, but most people in Malaysia are convinced that NFC was a scandal and involved corruption,” he said, using the Malay initials for the anti-graft body.
“SPRM is a stunt. If he has nothing to hide, show us the settlement now,” the Pandan MP told Malay Mail Online when contacted yesterday.
Rafizi further pointed out that Shahrizat’s husband, Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail, was not charged under the anti-graft law, but under the Companies Act and with criminal breach of trust instead.
In 2012, the MACC had cleared former Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat of the cattle-rearing scandal, with national newswire Bernama reporting the graft-busters as saying that she was not involved in the National Feedlot Corporation’s procurement of a RM250 million government loan for the federal project.
Khalid’s aides submitted PKR’s report on his alleged misdeeds to MACC yesterday afternoon.
The report, which was distributed to top Pakatan Rakyat leaders Tuesday, cited six reasons why PKR wanted to oust Khalid as Selangor MB with his questionable out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam on top of the list.
The other main reasons cited were his push for Selangor’s water restructuring deal with Putrajaya, the Kidex highway project, garbage collection issues, potholes and the increase of business license fees in the state.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Khalid dared to go to the national graft-busters because the MB had now become a “BN-friendly” politician, referring to the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
