Khalid Samad may face the music for questioning Pas Syura Council
(NST) – Shah Alam member of parliament Khalid Samad may face disciplinary action for questioning the consensus made by PAS’s highest decision-making body, the Syura council for pledging support to the menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in the state political crisis.
Acting Pas syura council deputy chief Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed said that the decision to take disciplinary action against Khalid would be made by the party’s disciplinary committee as it is not the prerogative of the syura council.
“Khalid is a PAS member beyond his allegiance with Pakatan and should have followed the opinion of the party instead of questioning it.
“The decision made by the syura council was a consensus and not made based on the opinion of only one leader. Khalid as an individual has the right to speak his mind but as a party member he should respect the opinion of party leaders,” he said.
Commenting on the continuous backlash received by PAS from the other two political parties in Pakatan Rakyat-DAP and PKR-for supporting Khalid Ibrahim, Mahfodz said that PAS is not bonded by the need to toe the line in Pakatan and restricted from making its own decisions.
“Its a democratic system where each party is entitled to its own opinion,” he told the New Straits Times.
Mahfodz who admitted that he havent read the 50-pages dossier on Khalid’s alleged mismanagement of funds by PKR said that he reserve his comments on the authenticity of the dossier and its impact on the syura council’s decision.
Khalid Samad questioned the Syura council’s decision to support Khalid Ibrahim without reading the dossier containing his alleged misconduct.
Khalid said that he would not be surprised if the Syura council would retract their support for Khalid Ibrahim once they have read the dossier and demand for the menteri besar to explain himself. He also urged Khalid Ibrahim to explain the allegations listed in the dossier.
While responding to the call by Dungun Pas Youth wing for the party to take disciplinary actions against him, Khalid Samad said they have the right to free speech and criticize him.
He added that he is not wavered by the threat and refuse to prolong the internal party conflict between him and certain members of the youth wing.
