Khalid misled Sultan, says Kit Siang
(FMT) – DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang today urged Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim to “resign gracefully” to make amends for allegedly misleading the Sultan of Selangor about the support he enjoys in the state assembly.
In a statement issued after PKR President Wan Azizah Ismail claimed she had the support of 30 assemblypersons for her to take over as Menteri Besar, Lim said Khalid had “committed the grave wrong on Monday of misleading the Sultan of Selangor into believing that he still commanded support of the majority of the Selangor state assembly members.”
He said Khalid should have verified that he had enough support before having his audience with the Sultan.
He alleged that Khalid chose not to make the verification because he knew that he could not get a majority support from the DAP, PKR and PAS representatives in the state assembly.
“It is crystal clear that he is hanging on to the post of Menteri Besar solely on the ‘unconditional support’ of the 12 Umno/Barisan Nasional state assemblypersons,” he said.
Referring to Khalid’s statement that only a motion of no-confidence would verify Wan Azizah’s claim, Lim said it reflected his “state of mind to have a last-ditch stand to cling on to the Menteri Besar’s post for as long as possible.”
“As an emergency state assembly can only be convened by the Menteri Besar, is Khalid prepared to uphold the word and spirit of the Selangor state constitution to convene such an emergency state assembly meeting?” he asked.
