Selangor MB crisis: PAS rep reaffirms support for Wan Azizah
(The Star) – Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin has reaffirmed his support for PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, despite a 24-hour notice by his party, PAS, to withdraw his decision.
“I am firm with my decision and stance. I will not retract (the support). This is my final decision,” he told mStar Online on Friday.
Hasnul has been criticised by his party for going against the Syura Council’s decision to back embattled Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
On Thursday, Hasnul and Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib joined PKR and DAP representatives in a show of majority support for Dr Wan Azizah.
PAS has resisted its Pakatan Rakyat partners’ insistence that Dr Wan Azizah replace Khalid in the ongoing mentri besar crisis.
On Thursday, Selangor PAS gave Hasnul and Saari 24 hours to withdraw their support for Dr Wan Azizah and comply with party instructions to stand by Khalid.
Hasnul and Saari had said that they were willing to become independents should PAS refuse Dr Wan Azizah’s candidacy.
Hasnul added that Selangor PAS had no power to take disciplinary action against them.
“Kesalahan yang dilakukan tidaklah begitu besar. (The offence is not that big).
“In fact, Selangor PAS does not have the locus standi to take action. I leave it to the PAS central committee to take further action on my stand,” he said.
Saari could not be reached for comments. PKR has sacked Khalid as party member for refusing to step down as mentri besar.
