Khalid sues PKR sec-gen over dirty dossier in latest legal salvo
(Malay Mail Online) – Tan Sri Khalid ibrahim is suing PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution over allegations contained in a report that the party used to justify its decision to replace him as Selangor mentri besar.
Khalid last week gave the former Machang MP 24 hours to retract the 91-page report that formed the basis of allegations against the Selangor mentri besar’s integrity.
In a previous letter of demand to Saifuddin, Khalid had claimed that three points were defamatory. These were accusations about his out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam, purported business deals with Eco World Bhd and Selangor’s water restructuring deal with Putrajaya.
He has now added allegations over the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) levelled against him, as well as the conclusion of the report that his administration has caused losses to Selangor and damaged the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact.
Khalid claimed that the allegations contained in the report were injurious to his reputation as Selangor mentri besar, a federal lawmaker, Port Klang assemblyman and a person of prominent social standing.
He is seeking general, exemplary and aggravated damages for the offending report, as well as an injunction preventing Saifuddin from repeating the allegations.
The 91-page report distributed to top Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders contained allegations and justifications as to how PKR came to the decision to ask Khalid to resign from the state’s top post.
In a pre-emptive strike, Khalid’s aides then submitted PKR’s report on their boss’ alleged links to dubious deals to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), requesting the anti-graft body investigate the party’s claims.
Khalid, who was sacked from PKR for refusing to yield the mentri besar’s post to party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, is also suing news portal The Malaysian Insider over reports and commentary on the Selangor leadership crisis.
