(MMO) – The leadership tussle in Selangor must be seen as part of Pakatan Rakyat’s reformasi plan and not intended to just oust the menteri besar, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The opposition leader said the “perceived tussle” between him and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should not be viewed as a personal feud, but rather a move to fix outstanding problems in the state.

“There is nothing personal in this issue. I am not one who will lambast Khalid for anything that others may perceive he is doing wrong, but then there are many things he did not handle well and this was hurting the people,” he told Malay Mail.

Anwar, who is the Selangor economic adviser, said the move was also an attempt to curb the derelict across the country’s richest state.

He said although Khalid had been instrumental in the state by amassing RM3 billion through the good governance of Pakatan Rakyat, there were many other issues that were not handled.

“On the issue of road networks, there is RM1 billion in the state coffers that was allocated to fix the roads, but nothing was done,” he said.

“The state of garbage collection in some parts of Selangor is horrible, and I had to personally fix this.”

On the nomination of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as menteri besar, he said there was no cause for concern as she had the support of the majority in the state assembly.

“It is very unlikely that the ruler will not approve of our candidate, though there is still the term called ‘discretion’.”
