(The Star) – Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s political secretary has dismissed allegations that the PAS president had asked PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to join the Islamist party with a view to the latter becoming Selangor Mentri Besar.

In a statement Tuesday, Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Hadi had never made such offers, which were allegedly at the centre of discussions when the PAS president met with the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman recently.

“I was present when Azmin paid Hadi a visit recently. Azmin’s main reason to visit Hadi was to thank the president for nominating him as the new mentri besar.

“Azmin also sought general views and advice from the president on how to strengthen Pakatan Rakyat.

“Not once did they mention anything about forming a unity government with Umno, as alleged,” said the statement.

A news portal, had on Tuesday reported that Hadi had admitted at a recent meeting with PAS top leadership that such offers were made to Azmin and a few other PKR assemblymen in order to get them to form a unity government with Umno.

Quoting PAS sources, the report added that Azmin had, however, turned down the offer.

“We are very disappointed with the lies that were created just to confuse the people,” said Dr Ahmad.
