Sultan fixed Sept 3 deadline for MB candidates

(The Malaysian Times) – The Selangor Sultan has fixed next Wednesday as the deadline for Pakatan Rakyat component parties – PAS, PKR and DAP – to submit the names of candidates for the menteri besar post, a report said today.

The date (Sept 3), according to Malaysiakini, was stated in a letter from the palace, signed by the sultan’s private secretary Mohammad Munir Bani, to Pakatan parties today.

The Selangor political crisis saw a new development yesterday when Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah postponed accepting Abdul Khalid’s resignation as the Selangor Menteri Besar until a new appointment had been determined.

The Ruler also told the leaders of the Pakatan Rakyat component parties – PAS, PKR and DAP – to nominate more than two names from each party as the candidate for the Menteri Besar to facilitate him in deciding on the eligible candidate and subsequently give his consent to appoint the candidate felt qualified to be the Menteri Besar.

Nonetheless, PKR and the DAP in their joint statement today said that they would still nominate one name, that is, Dr Wan Azizah as the sole candidate.
