(MMO) – Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) tradition of seeking consensus is at risk of falling apart, said PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli, if its ally PAS, does not honour its deal to back the party’s Selangor mentri besar nominee.

Rafizi pointed out that the PR leadership council’s decision on August 17 to support Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail for Selangor’s top post was unanimous.

“We have to abide by that process of decision making. I really hope the PAS leadership will consider sticking to the decision of the council on August 17 because anything other than that is not a PR decision,” Rafizi told Malay Mail Online yesterday.

The Pandan MP reminded the Islamist party that the principle of collective decision-making undertaken by the three parties “is more important than the decision itself”.

“How do you go forward from here? We will have a lot of issues to deal with and there will be a lot of other delicate national issues that we have to decide collectively in the future,” he added.

“What is at stake here is that tradition of equal standing and that we have always gone by consensus, and that consensus is to only nominate one person,” said Rafizi.
