Anwar won’t budge and PKR in a bind

(The Star) – PKR is in a bind over the Selangor palace’s reminder to submit more names to be considered for the Mentri Besar post.

The party’s central leadership failed to reach a consensus yesterday when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim refused to give in to internal pressure to submit more names.

Sources said Anwar had insisted that his wife Datuk Seri Wan Azizah should be the sole nominee for the post.

“Azmin Ali had called on Anwar to be more rational, and submit two more names as requested by the Sultan. But Anwar refused to budge,” said the source.

Meanwhile, DAP has been temporarily spared the dilemma of choosing more candidates although it had also submitted Wan Azizah’s name as the sole candidate.

DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua said they have yet to receive any letter from the palace to nominate more candidates. “We did not receive any letter. Perhaps the letter was sent but it has not reached us yet,” he said.
