(The Star) – In another twist, PAS now says it will reject the post of Mentri Besar even if the Sultan of Selangor appoints one of the party’s candidates nominated by its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Deputy president Mohamad Sabu told a press conference after chairing the party’s central committee meeting on Sunday that the committee was sticking to its original decision of not vying for the Mentri Besar’s post.

On Saturday, Hadi had made it clear that he had the power to make certain decisions under the party’s constitution although the central committee had agreed not to nominate anyone from PAS.

Hadi who rejected outright the candidacy of PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as he felt she was unqualified for the post, is believed to have nominated three PAS executive councillors for the post.

Hadi did not attend the five-hour central committee meeting that ended at 3pm.

Secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said that there was no harm in sending more than one name as the Palace had requested for “more than two names.”

“That is fine, it was just a suggestion. In the end, it is the Sultan who has the final say,” Mustafa said.

Asked if the PAS assemblymen have received the Palace’s consent to take over Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s post, Mustafa said the party should not pre-empt what the Palace would decide.
