Dr Wan Azizah lost credibility when she quit Opposition Leader post, PAS wing says
(Malay Mail Online) – The public lost confidence in Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when she resigned as Opposition Leader barely six months after taking the job, the Federal Territories branch of PAS women’s wing said today.
In defence of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s assessment of the PKR president’s leadership capabilities, the wing also said that Dr Wan Azizah has performed poorly so far as Kajang assemblyman.
“Whatever her excuse at that time, the public has lost confidence and cannot see her seriousness as a leader and politician in implementing the trust of voters who voted her in six month before,” its deputy chief Dr Rosni Adam said in a statement, referring to her resignation.
According to Rosni, PAS and Hadi had previously given Dr Wan Azizah the chance to be the Parliamentary Opposition Leader after the 2008 general elections, but the former Permatang Pauh MP resigned in August that year.
“PAS is worried that if such a performance is continued, the public will challenge Pakatan’s capabilities in producing competent MPs and mentri besar,” she said.
Rosni’s remark came today as a retort to DAP women’s chief Chong Eng, who criticised Hadi for allegedly breaking up Pakatan Rakyat (PR) with his rejection of Dr Wan Azizah as the sole Selangor mentri besar candidate.
The Sultan of Selangor said today he was disappointed with PKR and DAP for insisting on submitting only one name for consideration as the next mentri besar despite his having requested late last month that they submit more than two names.
His statement stressed that the request for more than two candidates to be submitted was by convention, to give the Sultan the option to choose a mentri besar based not only on majority support in the state legislative assembly but also by the candidate’s skills, experience, integrity and capabilities.
PKR and DAP both listed PKR president Dr Wan Azizah as their proposed candidate for mentri besar, despite the Sultan of Selangor having initially rejected the proposal on grounds that he would need more than two names for consideration.
PAS had initially submitted two names — Dr Wan Azizah and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali — but their list has since been overtaken by a list of three undisclosed names personally submitted by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang late last week.
“DAP women’s wing should handle the problem wisely so that Pakatan’s name will not be tarnished as a group which disobeyed the royal institution in this country,” Rosni added.
“The women’s wings of DAP, PKR and PAS should sit together to discuss the future of PR and find a solution to prevent any enmity with the palace, not attack each other’s leaders with baseless slander.”
