Selangor MB crisis: Palace’s full statement

Sultan-Selangor

(The Star) – The Selangor Palace considers the defiance of PKR and DAP to submit “more than two names” for the Mentri Besar’s post as “rudeness to the Royal instituion” and an act of “derhaka” (disloyalty) to the Sultan.

The six-paragraph statement signed by the Private Secretary to the Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, read as follows:

“The Sultan of Selangor has received the names of candidates for Selangor mentri besar from three Pakatan Rakyat parties as stated by the Sultan in a letter dated August 27, 2014.

“However, only PAS abided by the Sultan of Selangor’s command by submitting three names while PKR amd the DAP submitted only one name, that of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR president) as candidate for Selangor mentri besar.

“The Sultan of Selangor is very disappointed with the action of DAP and PKR in defiance of the Sultan’s decree on Aug 27.

“The action of both parties reflects their kebiadapan (rudeness) towards the Royal institution and an act of derhaka (disloyalty) towards the Sultan of Selangor.

“The Sultan of Selangor’s command for more than two names as candidates for Selangor mentri besar is the practice or convention so that he can choose the Selangor mentri mesar based on the support of a majority of state assemblymen and also in terms of their skills, experience, integrity and ability.

“The traits are very important to ensure a smooth Selangor administration and augurs well for the harmony in the state.

“The Sultan of Selangor is confident that there are many candidates in Pakatan Rakyat who have good leadership traits to lead the Selangor government.”

“The Sultan of Selangor will study the list of candidates received by considering all aspects in evaluating the candidates before making any decision.

“Since the power to appoint Selangor mentri besar is at the discretion of the Sultan of Selangor, he will study the names of other state assemblymen from Pakatan Rakyat who are qualified and has majority support of the state assemblymen.”
