DAP seeks Sultan’s forgiveness

Lim Guan Eng declares his party’s ‘undivided loyalty to the constitutional monarchy’.

(Free Malaysia Today) – DAP today apologised to the Sultan of Selangor for nominating only one person for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.

In a press statement released in Kuala Lumpur, DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng said, “On behalf of DAP, I seek the forgiveness of the Sultan of Selangor for disappointing him with DAP’s decision to submit the name of Kajang Adun Dr.Wan Azizah as candidate for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.”

He said the decision was made after consultation with PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and in accordance with the convention followed in the appointment of Abdul Khalid Ibrahim last year.

He said the decision was also based on the fact that 30 out of 56 Selangor legislators had signed statutory declarations in support of Wan Azizah and on a consensus that the menteri besar should be from PKR.

He declared DAP’s “undivided loyalty to the constitutional monarchy” and said he would have further consultations with Anwar on the Sultan’s decree that at least three names be submitted as candidates for the Menteri Besar post.
